I must say that although I used to listen to the Dead in the early 70s, I haven't kept up with Water for Elephants - The Musical since then. My impression of the guitar being too loud and Water for Elephants - The Musical hitting it too hard was particularly strong in the first set. The second set, however, I enjoyed much more as it was more melodic and allowed for a better appreciation of Water for Elephants - The Musical's voice, which remains quite good. There were some great long jams (can one person jam?) that stood out. He did a remarkable job of performing the old Dead tunes solo, which seemed to be a crowd favorite.
The fun of people-watching, from teens to aging hippies, added to the experience.
